La Gabare : Semiclassical analysis along the Loire

The project

The ANR project La Gabare brings together mathematicians working in Mathematical Physics along the Loire River. The project is structured around three main research axes, in which asymptotic methods of semi-classical type are relevant and promissing.
  • The first axis focuses on subelliptic geometry and subelliptic operators, with particular emphasis on the spectral theory of these operators (Riemanian approximation), as well as on the propagation of singularities and the analysis of defects of compactness.
  • The second axis is devoted to the study of non (necessarily) selfadjoint operators, with or without subelliptic aspects. This includes the spectral theory of magnetic Laplacians pertubed by complex-valued potentials, Fokker-Planck operators, and also Bloch-Torrey operators, itogether with the investigation of the dynamics they generate.
  • The third axis lies at the interface with theoretical chemistry. It aims to apply the theoretical tools developed in the first two axes to problems arising in quantum chemistry. The main challenges concern dimensional reduction methods, and approximation methods (based on Gaussians), with a view toward improving numerical efficiency. The team's expertise spans harmonic analysis, spectral theory, spectral geometry, and the analysis of (linear and nonlinear) PDEs.
